Innovation Award presentation ceremony

The finalists of the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2024 were officially presented at the AKL24 - International Laser Technology Congress and the allocation of the individual places was ceremoniously announced. We are really delighted that AUDI has partnered with us at such a prestigious event and has been awarded 2nd place. 

The submitted title of the innovation describes the holistic approach to laser beam welding for the cell contacting of battery modules with the highest quality using artificial intelligence.

The battery is a major cost driver and places high overall quality demands on the joining technology. Each weld seam must not only fulfil the mechanical requirements, but above all the electrical conductivity is a property that must comply 100% with the specifications. The AI-based evaluation of the laser process signals to extract absolute physical values enables the reconstruction of a 3D fingerprint for each weld seam. The direct feedback from the system technology to the system in the form of component strength, gap dimension between the joining parts, the welding depth and thus the contact quality of the cell contact minimizes the quality control loop to batch size ‘1’. In the event of a fault, the system is stopped immediately and the cause of the fault is rectified directly by assigning the cause of the fault to the corresponding contact point, which keeps the reject rate low.

The Innovation Award Laser Technology is a European research and technology prize that is awarded every two years jointly by the AKL Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik e.V. and the European Laser Institute ELI e.V. for outstanding innovative work in the field of laser technology.
